Laser treatment of telangiectasia; spider veins or broken capillaries on both face and legs for men and women is now available using the Candela GENTLEYAG® Aesthetic Laser from the Candela Corporation in Wayland, MA. We are able to clear spider veins or broken capillaries on the face, chest or legs with minimal to no unpleasant side effects.

The GENTLEYAG® Laser works by transmitting laser light through the skin to the tiny blood vessels or spider veins being treated. As the laser light is absorbed, it is converted into heat, which is conducted to the surrounding walls of the vessels. If enough damage is done to the walls of these tiny veins, the circulatory system will not be able to repair it, and there will be complete disappearance. This occurs in 1-3 treatments in most cases. Often, spider veins on the cheeks and nose are cleared in just 1 treatment. If vessels are still visible in 4-6 weeks, a second treatment will be necessary.

The GENTLEYAG® delivers energy more slowly than the quick blast of earlier spider vein lasers, which caused blood vessels to rupture; resulting in bruising that lasted several weeks. Now the vessels are treated over a longer period of time and therefore stay intact during treatment. THIS MEANS NO BRUISING!

The vein laser treatment is made more comfortable by the use of a dynamic cooling device, which comes in contact with the skin over the blood vessels or spider vein simultaneously with the pulse of the laser. This protects the skin from injury, as well as reduce discomfort.

Side effects are few but may include redness, swelling or mild pain at the site for a few days.

Good candidates for spider vein laser treatment have light to medium skin tone which is not tanned or recently exposed to the sun. Small spider veins and rosacea on the face can be effectively treated by the Yag Laser. Rosacea and diffuse redness can be best treated with a PHOTOFACIAL OR IPL treatment. Large or varicose veins (blue in color) are not effectively treated by this method.
