hair removal. |
What areas of the body can be treated with Laser
Hair Removal?
Any body part of men and women can be safely
treated with hair removal lasers.
Who are good candidates for Laser Hair Removal?
Individuals with coarse, dark hair (brown and
black) and light skin have the best laser hair removal results. This is
due to the melanin or pigment in the follicle by which the laser energy
is absorbed. Our Candela Yag Laser has now made it possible to treat skin
of all colors using aggressive skin cooling and a choice of pulse durations.
This means that by delivering the laser pulse over a prolonged period
of time, the skin can be adequately cooled and protected. For those with
blond, red, white or light brown hair electrolysis is the treatment of
choice for you.
Why is Laser Hair Removal an effective treatment?
Temporary hair removal methods, such as shaving, plucking
and waxing can often stimulate hair growth! Hair removal lasers use a
light at a particular wavelength that is highly absorbed by the pigment
in the hair follicle. The light is converted to energy which completely
disables the hair follicle without damaging the surrounding skin.
Why is Laser Hair Removal a safe treatment?
During a laser hair removal treatment the skin is protected by patented
cooling systems. Our GentleLase Plus laser uses a Dynamic Cooling Device
in which cryogen is sprayed onto the skin along with the laser pulse,
cooling the upper layers of the skin and providing patients with increased
comfort. Our Candela Yag Laser has now made it possible to treat skin
of all colors using aggressive skin cooling with cryogen and a wide range
of pulse durations. This means that by delivering the laser pulse over
a prolonged period of time, the skin can be adequately cooled and protected.
How long does a Laser Hair Removal
Treatment take?
Each laser pulse treats approximately a dime to nickel sized area. The
amount of time required for a treatment depends on the size of the area
to be treated. For example, upper lip 5-8 minutes, bikini area 20-30 minutes,
and a full back will take 1-1 1/2 hours.
How many laser hair removal treatments
will I need?
3 to 6 laser hair removal treatments spaced out by 2-3 month intervals
is the average number of treatments for permanent hair removal. You will
be hair free following laser hair removal for approximately 2 months following
a treatment; and for longer periods of time with subsequent treatments.
Skin and hair coloring and coarseness/texture of hair are contributing
factors to the number of treatments needed.
What is the cost of laser hair removal?
The cost of laser hair removal varies depending on the size of the area.
We discount for multiple areas such as chin and upper lip; or bikini line
and underarms for example. You will find our pricing fair and competitive.
We offer $50 off your first treatment.
What causes hair growth?
The number one cause of excessive hair growth is heredity and ethnic background.
Superfluous or excessive hair growth is often a result of normal biological
changes that women undergo throughout life, such as puberty, pregnancy,
menopause and old age. These are the main life changes that can effect
hormone fluctuations in the body. Any one of these changes may cause an
increase in hair growth in areas that never had hair before, or cause
a small to moderate problem area to worsen. Other causes of hair growth
can be associated with certain medications, stress and obesity. More seriously,
it the cause can be an abnormality in the endocrine system such as irregular
menstrual cycles, ovarian disorders; such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome
(PCOS), and thyroid abnormalities.
Why do temporary hair removal methods
such as waxing and tweezing stimulate hair growth?
Waxing, tweezing and depilatory creams are amongst the top culprits for
stimulating hair growth. When a hair root is pulled at or tugged at to
remove it, a blood supply rushes to the area nourishing the hair follicle.
When this process is done regularly the result is growth of very coarse
deep rooted hairs. Most clients are surprised to learn that years of waxing
and/or tweezing have played a role in making the hair growth worse.
Why Laser Hair Removal versus Electrolysis?
Because FINALLY THERE IS A FASTER WAY! Laser hair removal is highly
recommended for large areas such as the back, legs, bikini area and/or
thighs. On a good laser hair removal candidate the larger areas work very
quickly. A few ELECTROLYSIS treatments may be recommended following a
laser series for scattered fine regrowth.
Is Laser Hair Removal uncomfortable?
There is some discomfort associated with laser hair removal treatment.
Stress, fatigue, caffeine, menses and pain tolerance can influence what
you feel. There are very effective topical anesthetics available that
we use for those who need it.
